Production of standard glass insulators begins by heating a precisely formulated blend of silica sand and raw materials to fusion temperature. The resulting molten glass is formed in precision molds, then rapidly quenched (tempered) to establish beneficial compressive stresses across the surface. This process dramatically increases mechanical resilience and guarantees harmless shattering upon failure. Rigorous thermal shock testing and visual scrutiny eliminate defective units before assembly. Approved glass shells are permanently joined to galvanized iron caps and steel pins using specialized cement. Final verification includes mechanical tensile testing and electrical withstand voltage checks to ensure complete reliability before packaging.
