The Butao–Ordos 500kV Transmission Line Project is a supporting power-delivery project for the national Kubuqi Desert 4GW wind-solar base. With a total line length of 132.1 km, the project mainly adopts a double-circuit configuration on the same tower.

Starting from the Butao 500kV Substation and connecting to the Ordos 1000kV UHV Substation, the transmission line delivers renewable energy into the UHV transmission network and supports the efficient utilization of large-scale wind and solar power.

Project Challenges

Located in a desert and windy environment, the transmission line is exposed to wind, sand, dust and outdoor pollution. These conditions place higher requirements on the long-term performance of transmission line insulators.
